Fairway Solitaire is released!
Hi everyone, I’m *extremely* proud to present my latest game:
It’s a golf-themed solitaire game. Warning: Highly addictive!
I was contracted by Big Fish Games to make a downloadable version of their most popular online game community game of 2006. I worked very closely with a BFG game designer and an American artist – we made a great team and it was a lot of fun (and hard work)! It has taken 8.5 months to complete. That might seem a long time for a solitaire game, but check it out and you’ll see why it took so long. The game has tons of features such as an avatar, storyline, shop, statistics, trophies, golf announcer + more … and it’s been SUPER polished.
I’m really proud of this game, it’s my best one to date and has been made with my BlitzMax Game Framework which many people have purchased to speed up the development of their own games.
I hope that you enjoy it 🙂
Here’s some screenshots:

But don’t just look at them, please download the game and check it out + tell your friends and family! Thanks 🙂

Hey!
I don’t have time to play it right now because I am almost off to university but I just wanted to say that the game looks very clean, coherent and polished! *bookmarked for later* 🙂

Thanks! Hope you enjoy it. Have a good day.

Thanks! Yeah lots of people seem to just zone out when playing the demo and then the time is up. That’s a good sign. I’m certainly proud with the work and intend to make a great next game too…

My wife got instantly addicted on this game. I’m not kidding. As a game developer, I always split with her the 1 hour of gameplay portal downloads gives us, so I can stay updated on the latest titles and check what she likes most (except for her age, she fits almost perfectly on that “women players” statistics of casual market).
But your game, man… I couldn’t play more than 3 minutes of it! She spent everything and soon enough I’m certain there will be a 19,95 debit payment on my credit card, LOL!
Congratulations for this great game!

Great game. Congrats.
I can’t remember what was the last one hour casual game trial that I actually played through. It was probably Zuma. I usually I just quit and uninstall after five minutes.
If it weren’t so addictive (and thus time wasty) I’d probably buy it 🙂
December 15th, 2007 at 10:38 am
lol, haha thanks guys. It *IS* addictive for sure, even I’m addicted to it.
December 16th, 2007 at 1:42 am
Man, you’ve done a great job! When my demo time was up I was actually bummed. If the urge is still with me in a couple days I’ll just have to buy it. That’s unusually for me, especially for casual games. Congratulations, I hope you make a killing.

Thanks MrPhil. Haha, sorry you are bummed out. Easy way to fix=buy 😉 Yeah it’s fair to say I’m doing rpetty well from this game.

Can’t play the game – (Windows Vista) – I repeatedly get the following error:
Error: Access violation at 0x7732164F (tried to rea from 0x6E532071), program terminated.
December 19th, 2007 at 9:19 am
Michaelangelo: I’m sorry to hear that. I know that it does work on most Vista set ups as I’ve tested it here and many people with Vista have bought it, so unfortunately it must be something in your setup that is not compatible. That error message is a generic memory error that doesn’t tell me anything useful I’m afraid. Many thanks for reporting the error and I’m sorry the game doesn’t work for you.

Any chance that this game will be released to retail outlets like Target? I don’t have a CC ATM and would appreciate a chance to join in on the fun!
I noticed that Big Fish Games has released a few of their games to retail outlets and hope that Fairway Solitaire will join the list!

Actually yes there is, I heard yesterday that BFG use Activision and may well release this via them as retail. We’ll see…I’ll probably blog about it when it happens.
December 20th, 2007 at 1:24 pm
I don’t know why, but it is addictive… the last game I truly got addicted to was Diablo II. That’s bad, because I have work to do, too! 😀
December 20th, 2007 at 2:45 pm
Yeah I got serious addicted to Diablo II – it doesn’t help that Diablo II + Expansion pack is MASSIVE! I forced myself to stop playing it so I could finish this game!
December 20th, 2007 at 5:34 pm
Congrats – it’s a fantastic game, well done. I like it and my wife is completely addicted 🙂
December 20th, 2007 at 9:46 pm
Thanks! Yep it addicts men and women, and the golf theme isn’t putting too many people off, phew! Hey I recognise that URL, respect for Mr Robot dude!
December 20th, 2007 at 9:49 pm
Hey I forgot to mention: It’s up to #3 at Big Fish Games now, wooo!!

Thanks for the info. Looking forward to it happening…
I also have one more suggestion. I think this would be a terrific handheld game! Maybe if it gets enough success it could be ported to the psp or ds platforms. But of course I’m getting ahead of myself here. 🙂
December 20th, 2007 at 11:25 pm
Sure. That decision is up to BFG however as they own the game.

Saw the recommendation at Dubious Quality (http://dubiousquality.blogspot.com/) and bought the game. Very nicely done! By the way, all games at the Big Fish website are currently 40% off if you purchase by 12/31/07.

I am currently having a problem with my copy of Fairway Solitaire. I don’t understand why the voices of the commentator no longer work. I enjoyed the comments as I played the solitaire game. But now can’t get any voices at all. How can I fix this problem. I bought the game last February.

Hi Genie, sorry to hear that. Have you looked at the Options screen in the game? It has a volume slider (for sound effects) and an announcer slider. See if they are correct.
If that doesn’t work and you are on an XP PC you need to go to this folder on your system: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Grey Alien Games\Fairway Solitaire
Note that Application Data is a hidden folder so you may need to tell your system to show hidden folders. Try these instructions for that: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=192
Then open up FairwaySolitaire.ini with Notepad by double clicking it. (If you don’t see .ini on the end of the filename, just double click it anyway).
Then look for a line that says SPEECH=1 and make sure that it says 1 and not 0. If need be, change it and then save the file.
Then try loading the game again and see what happens. Good luck.
If you have Vista you will need to go to C:\ProgramData\Grey Alien Games\Fairway Solitaire\ instead to find the file.
There is no easy solution for Mac because that file is hidden in a special location by Big Fish Games.
You can also try contacting Big Fish Games customer support to see if they can help.

The new game, which they are rudely not calling Fairway Solitaire 2, just doesn;t measure up to yours. My mother agrees. For that matter, none of the solitaire games at Bigfish are anywhere near as addictive.

Hi Lai-Lai. I’m glad you liked the original. Thanks for your kind comments.
